BidFilter (“BidFilter”, “we”, “us”, or “our”) provides a Chrome extension and web service that helps freelancers review Upwork job posts before deciding whether to apply.
BidFilter is an independent product and is not affiliated with, endorsed by, or sponsored by Upwork.
1. What BidFilter does
BidFilter analyzes the Upwork job detail page or job detail modal that you manually open. It checks visible job information such as budget, scope, client signals, competition, and red flags, then returns a decision such as APPLY, APPLY WITH CAUTION, LOW PRIORITY, or SKIP.
BidFilter does not:
- apply to jobs for you
- send proposals
- message clients
- log in to Upwork for you
- collect your Upwork password
- bulk analyze search results pages
- crawl Upwork in the background
2. Information we collect
We collect only the information needed to provide, secure, bill, and improve BidFilter.
Account information
When you create or use a BidFilter account, we may collect email address, user ID, authentication state, plan type, account creation timestamps, and login timestamps.
Profile and preference information
If you configure your profile, we may store skills, target hourly rate, minimum fixed budget, preferred job types, excluded keywords, and other job-matching preferences you provide.
Job analysis information
When you manually analyze a job, BidFilter may process and store job title, job URL or job identifier, visible job description or relevant excerpts, budget type and budget range, required skills visible in the job post, client signals visible on the job page, proposal count and other visible job metadata, BidFilter decision, apply score, red flags, generated analysis results, and timestamp of analysis.
We use this data to show your analysis result, enforce usage limits, provide saved history for Pro users, debug product issues, and improve analysis quality.
Usage information
We may collect number of checks used, plan limit, feature usage, extension page type detection, analysis success or failure, error events, and approximate timestamps.
Billing information
If you purchase a paid plan, billing is processed by our billing provider. We may store billing provider name, provider customer ID, provider subscription ID, provider status, normalized plan and subscription status, and current billing period dates. We do not store full payment card numbers.
Technical information
We may collect limited technical information needed for security and debugging, such as browser type, extension version, error logs, request timestamps, and server-side diagnostic events.
3. Information the Chrome extension can access
The BidFilter extension is designed to work on Upwork pages. It reads visible job information from the Upwork job detail page or job detail modal you open.
The extension does not read every page you browse. It does not collect your Upwork password. It does not send proposals or messages. It does not bulk analyze search results.
4. How we use information
- provide job analysis and scoring
- enforce Free and Pro usage limits
- show saved analysis history
- manage account and subscription status
- process billing status through our billing provider
- detect errors and prevent stale or incorrect analysis
- improve product reliability and analysis quality
- protect the service from abuse
5. AI processing
BidFilter may send job analysis inputs to server-side AI systems or model providers to generate analysis results. We do not intentionally send your Upwork password, private messages, or payment card details to AI systems. The analysis input is limited to information needed to evaluate the job you manually opened.
6. What we do not do
- sell your personal data
- collect your Upwork password
- submit proposals for you
- message Upwork clients
- auto-apply to jobs
- run background job crawling
- use search results pages as a bulk analysis source
- store full payment card numbers
7. Sharing information
We may share limited information with service providers that help us operate BidFilter, such as authentication and database providers, AI model providers, billing providers, hosting providers, and logging and error monitoring providers.
We may also disclose information if required by law, to protect our rights, or to prevent abuse or security incidents.
8. Data retention
We keep account, subscription, usage, and analysis data as long as needed to provide BidFilter, comply with legal obligations, resolve disputes, prevent abuse, and improve reliability.
You may request deletion of your account data by contacting us. Some billing, security, or operational records may need to be retained for legitimate business or legal reasons.
9. Security
We use reasonable technical and organizational measures to protect your information. However, no online service can guarantee absolute security.
Server-side API keys and billing secrets are not stored in the Chrome extension.
10. Your choices
- choose not to analyze a job
- delete or uninstall the Chrome extension
- manage your billing through the account page if available
- contact us to request account deletion or data access
11. Children
BidFilter is not intended for children under 13 and is not designed for child-directed use.
